Part-time B.Tech. Degree For Engineering Diploma Holders
Can I get a B.Tech. degree while working full-time?"This question often troubles many engineering diploma holders who aspire to pursue a valid part-time engineering degree to get a better job in the market. Following the Hon'ble Supreme Court's verdict, which declared B.Tech. by distance learning null and void, esteemed education boards like UGC (University Grants Commission) and AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) confirmed that Indian universities are no longer allowed to run part-time, distance B.Tech. courses without approval. It was disheartening news for engineering aspirants who were looking forward to upgrading their job portfolio with a valid B.Tech. degree. However, considering the career prospects of engineering diploma holders, a special segment of 'WILP' B.Tech. courses were introduced for working professionals.

What Is A WILP B.Tech. Degree?
"LEWPP" or "Lateral Entry Working Professional Programme"is an initiative by the Indian education boards and prestigious universities to allow working professionals the opportunity to pursue higher education (at bachelor's and master's level) in various disciplines through the online mode. Despite being similar to distance learning, it is comparable to any other regular program in terms of learning, academic rigor, or credit requirements. It covers both academic learning, as well as the practical application of theoretical concepts in the workplace. The UGC has approved the WILP B.Tech. Degree and working engineers can pursue this part-time course at one of the UGC-AICTE approved universities, albeit there are certain eligibility criteria that need to be followed.
Part-Time B.Tech. Degree Eligibility:
Interested students need to hold an engineering diploma from a recognized university with a minimum score of 45% (or its equivalent in the grade system) and work experience of at least one year as an engineer. There isn’t any entrance exam conducted for this course, so one could seek direct admission to the university.
The Program:
Part-time B.Tech. for engineering diploma holders is an online program divided into eight semesters. Online classes are conducted in the first seven semesters by university faculty and industry experts after business hours on weekdays and on weekends. The final semester, or "internship," allows students to apply their online learning in real-life while getting trained at an engineering facility and submitting their dissertation. Exams and assignment submissions are conducted online for each semester. Students are accessed via the "continuous evaluation system" that monitors their attendance, learning, and feedback is given to help employees gain the most from the program. Students who successfully pass the exams, submit the assignments, and finish the internship are awarded a Bachelor's degree in engineering.
In What Disciplines Can I Get My Part-Time B.Tech. Degree?
